Workshop description:

The power of maps

A map tells a story about our surroundings, turning data into a visual representation of reality. Maps allow us to understand, explore, and uncover new patterns and connections by combining different pieces of information. The way a map is designed often makes its message immediately clear.

But does the map always tell the full story? Or can it offer different perspectives on reality? For example, the Ministry of Agriculture’s ‘Stikstofkaart’ (Nitrogen map) caused a lot of confusion in society.

In our workshop, you’ll explore the factors that influence how data is presented to us, and how that can shape our views. Learn how to critically analyze the geographic representation of data, and explore the “cartographic toolbox” to understand how design choices affect the way we perceive our environment. Join our workshop and become a pro at evaluating maps!
