Company profile Procap

At Procap, we work on a variety of spatial projects; from neighborhood renewals to large mobility projects. As space is scarce and interests differ, spatial projects are challenging and require first-class advice and smart project management. Procap helps governments in developing visions and guides projects from the initiation phase to the implementation phase. With our expertise, creativity and energy, we work on current spatial issues. We establish clear objectives, assemble the ideal team, develop a strategy, and go for it. In every project, we aim for an integrated approach; we try to find the right balance between for example the climate, the people and the economy. The projects we execute can be divided into three broad themes; area development, mobility & infrastructure and energy & climate. We offer our employees the opportunity and freedom to discover what kind of projects and activities they enjoy. We believe a pleasant atmosphere in the workplace is crucial, which is why we regularly organize activities that contribute to this.

Workshop description:

District heating

In our work, we continuously try to involve stakeholders and local communities. This is of extra importance for projects related to the energy transition, which can often be seen as controversial by stakeholders. Especially the domestic heat transition from natural gas to sustainable and clean methods proves to be a challenge. To take big steps in this transition a large focus in The Netherlands is on accelerating by transitioning whole neighbourhoods from heating with gas to utilising a single heating network that’s powered by sustainable sources, also known as ‘district heating’. This transition requires a lot from its inhabitants; they often need to improve the insulation of their home and adapt to a different way of heating and cooking. This often also requires them to make their own investments into renovating their home, an extra challenge in creating support for the project.

During this workshop we invite you to share your knowledge and creativity while examining a case that we are currently working on. After presenting the case, you will be split up in groups and design a strategy to transition a neighbourhood from natural gas to a district heating system. In this strategy design you answer the following questions:

  • What are the preconditions of applying district heating?
  • What problems might you run into during such a transition process?
  • How can inhabitants be motivated to go along with this transition?
  • How do you include hard-to-reach stakeholders in the process?
